Doria international players return to domestic action

With national-team commitments done and dusted for another few months, Sampdoria’s international contingent are set to return to Bogliasco and the stewardship of Marco Giampaolo and his team. While we wait for Doria training to resume in earnest, let’s take a look at how they got on.

Poland recorded one defeat and one victory in their World Cup 2018 qualification games, with Karol Linetty playing 66 minutes of the first game and Bartosz Bereszynski unused throughout. It was a tough start to the international period for Poland, who lost 4-0 in Denmark after goals from Delaney (16), Cornelius (42), Jorgensen (59) and Eriksen (80).

Back in Warsaw, Adam Nawalka’s men bounced back with a 3-0 defeat of Kazakhstan, with Milik (11), Glik (74) and Lewandowski (86 pen.) supplying the goals. Poland remain top of Group E with 19 points.

Talented young forward Adam Kownacki enjoyed a dream debut for Poland U21s as he scored twice (58 pen. and 65) in their 3-0 win over Georgia to give his country a first three points in the hunt for a place at Euro 2019. Kapustka added the third goal on 71 minutes.

Joachim Andersen won his first cap for Denmark U21s as they beat the Faroe Islands 3-0 in Torshavn courtesy of goals from Ingavartsen (13), Nissen (59) and Jensen (66). The Doria centre-back played 82 minutes before being replaced. Andersen also started Denmark’s 6-0 win over Lithuania back in Aalborg a few days later, playing the full game as Di Nissen (28, 44 and 87), Skov (30 and 55) and Ingavartsen (87) fired Denmark to a big win. Blucerchiati goalkeeper Titas Krapikas was an unused sub for Lithuania.
