Torreira named Best Midfielder in Europe
The plaudits keep coming in for Lucas Torreira, whose stock continues to rise after another superb season at Sampdoria.
After his first season spent adjusting to new surroundings and quietly building up a good reputation, the little Uruguayan really kicked on last campaign. A year of numerous highlights included his first goal for the club and a call-up to his senior national team.
The Blucerchiati No.34 is certainly in with a shout of making the definitive Uruguay squad for the World Cup in Russia.
For now, the Fray Bentos native can be satisfied with the title of Best Young Midfielder in Europe according to Outside of the Boot, an international online portal focusing on technical analysis and emerging talents. Torreira, who was already named in the Serie A Under-22 Team of the Season, joins Lazio’s Thomas Strakosha as Best Young Goalkeeper, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold as Best Young Defender and PSV Eindhoven’s Hirving Lonzano as Best Young Striker.
