Ferrari targets return to action before season end

Alex Ferrari has set his sights on making a full recovery from his knee injury and contributing to the Samp cause before the season is out.

The 25-year-old had established himself as a key member of the Doria rearguard in the first part of the campaign before sadly rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right leg in training at the end of December.

“I hope to link back up with the group as soon as possible,” the defender told Sampdoria’s official media.

“The injury was a big blow. It was finally turning out to be my year and I’d started playing more so it was tough to accept when an injury ruled me out.

“I had my operation on 2 January and started my rehab in Bologna about a week later. Unfortunately lockdown came in barely a month after that so I had to stay at home in Modena with my injury.

“It was difficult, especially mentally but in a way I’ve been lucky because now I hope to come back for at least some of the campaign.”

The season finale will be unlike any previously experienced, with the coronavirus-enforced suspension meaning the Blucerchiati will play their last 13 Serie A fixtures back-to-back with no breaks until early August.

“We’re not used to having to play every three days – plus we’ll have to the summer sun and heat to contend with, “Ferrari continued.

“Playing without the fans will be difficult for us too but I want to ask them to get behind us, even if they can’t come to the stadium.”
