Verre: “Delighted to get back amongst the goals”
Valerio Verre shared his delight at getting back on the scoresheet after he found the net in Samp’s 2-2 draw with Spezia on Wednesday night.
It might not have been the cleanest finish – Verre scuffed the ball and it ended up bouncing kindly into the net – but the Italian was in no mood to split hairs.
“It was too easy so I tried a lob!” he joked. “I’d missed scoring so I’m delighted to have got one again.”
Verre’s goal – his first since December – brought Samp level at 1-1 after Spezia had taken the lead, with the away side then going 2-1 up before another equaliser from Doria late on.
“We reacted twice so that showed character,” said Verre. “The coach had told us to focus on ourselves and on that 52 point target, which is what we did. It’s a shame we didn’t get the win at home, but it was a good performance. We started with good focus and although we made some early mistakes, I think we get a hold of the game well and I think we did a good job of contesting the second balls. We ended the first half of the season with two wins so let’s hope we can do the same now. Let’s give our all.”
