Giampaolo: “Verona are tough opponents, another battle awaits”

There is no letting up with the schedule at the moment. Just four days on from the clash with Lazio, Sampdoria will be back in action on Sunday away to Verona.

“We’re still reeling from the disappointment in Salerno, but we can’t let that bad performance linger for too long,” explained the coach. “That’s also important because it’s the same group of players that put in three good performances against Atalanta, Juventus and Lazio.

“Now another battle awaits against Verona. They’re tough opponents and they put in a real shift. They play with intensity and look to get in behind with a direct style. We know a difficult match is in store.”

Now the transfer market has shut, the talking moves to the pitch. “The club did what was possible in the best possible way without being full of hot air. The players who’ve come in over the last few days have to be working in the right conditions with their team-mates.

“I really rate my players and I’m convinced that hard work will get everyone up to speed.”
