Quagliarella out in front in Serie A assist table
Fabio Quagliarella is a timeless genius, a forward that can produce moments of jaw-dropping skill – like his back-heel volley scored earlier in the season against Napoli – that become the talk of TV and social media. Not only is the Samp front-man devastating in the penalty area, he’s a player that always looks to help his team-mates, evidenced by the fact he leads Serie A’s assist rankings this season.
The Doria captain has produced four assists so far this campaign. The first came in that thrilling win at home to Napoli, when he produced some delicate and composed hold-up play in the area before giving Gregoire Defrel the task of firing past David Ospina to get his second of the game.
In the thrashing of Frosinone, Quagliarella bagged his second assist of the season, setting up Gianluca Caprari to volley home with an inch-perfect cross with his left-foot.
Against SPAL he put a cushioned header into the path of Karol Linetty, who fired in the equaliser.
He then laid on the winning goal for Defrel, collecting the rebound from his earlier shot to give his team-mate the most straightforward of finishes.
The striker has already reached his total from the 2016/17 season, Marco Giampaolo’s first year at Sampdoria, and is already two short of his record assist tally with the Blucerchiati, achieved last season. He’s also on the way to beating the 2008/09 total of seven assists, recorded during his time with Udinese.
